How To Turn Off Automatic Updates in Windows 10

In Windows 10, all quality updates get download and install automatically as soon as it arrives. All this downloading and installing takes place when you are working on your system with an internet connection.

Updates adds new features which might be useful for you or might not be useful for you. But I don’t support auto-update for Windows because sometimes it adds negative affect user experience.

In this post, I am going to explain to you two different method by which you can pause automatic updates in Windows 10.
  • Method I, using Windows Settings.
  • Method II, using Command Prompt.

Turn Off Automatic Updates in Windows 10 using Windows Settings.

Step 1: Open your computer and click on Start Menu from the lower left corner.

Step 2: Click on Setting and inside Windows settings, click on Updates & Security.
Here (inside Windows Update) you can check whether your Windows is up to date or not notify with a green tick.

You can also set your Active hours- when you typically use your device which helps Windows to decide the best time to download and install new updates to your PC so Windows won’t automatically restart during the active hours.

Step 3: Click on Advanced options and turn off  "Automatically download updates, even over metered data connections".

So this is the method by which you can postpone your Windows 10 update and setting an Active hour is a good option and your system is not going to disturb you for restart and updates when you are using your device.

Pause Automatic Updates in Windows 10 Using Command Prompt.

Step 1: Click on the search box near the Start button and search for Command Prompt.

Step 2: Open your Command prompt of Windows 10 and Run as an Administrator.

Step 3: Inside the Command prompt. Type "net stop wuauserv" and press Enter and then type "net stop bits", and press Enter again.

Step 4: Finally type "net stop dosvc", press Enter and close the window.
