Google Earth News

Google Earth is now accessible from all other web browsers like Firefox, Edge, and Opera. Earlier, Google Earth was only available for Chrome Web browser but now after making it available to other browsers, it is now easily available for a larger audience. Google makes Google Earth supported on Edge, Firefox, and Opera after running a complete test on beta version for almost six months. However, Google says that Google Earth Web version needs “polishing” for making it supportable on other browser and they are also planning to make it available on Apple’s Safari soon in future.

"When we created Earth for Web, we wanted as many people as possible to be able to use it. For the past five years, we've been on a journey to bring Google Earth to as many browsers as possible," Google said, "Over the past few weeks, we've taken some big steps toward these goals." To use it, all you have to do is open the website on your browser. Now Google Earth is available on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera web browser.

Last year in June 2019, Google shared the challenges behind bringing Google Earth to other web browsers. Most of its coding is done in C++ language and this language is not used in the contemporary browsers, so making Earth supportable to other browser become quite difficult due to this reason. To bring Google Earth on Web, Google using a technology called Native Client (NaCl) to execute the code in Chrome.

But the company cannot use NaCl technology for other web browsers as it is specially designed for Chrome browser and to bring Earth on the browser, Google work on WebAssembly, the standard way for bringing and running native code to the web.

Google Earth was launched back in the year 2001 and with time and several updates it brings a new way of exploring the earth.
