Google Duo May Ditch the Need of Phone Numbers for Calls on Android.

Google Duo

Google Duo is going to allow people to contact other users without having their phone number. It means you can contact any Google Duo user just by having their email address. A reverse engineering expert, Manchun Wong, share about this new feature on Twitter handle with an image attached to it. The image showing a new feature Reach with email addresswith toggle option on the Google Duo app.

It is also being interpreted that Google is planning to relaunch Google Duo with a new feature in which a person can use Google Duo without adding their phone number. This feature is already available for the Google Duo Web.

The information we are getting from Wong tweet is that Google Duo is working on the "Reachable with email address" setting. The option has been shown up in the Account Settings section, saying that it will let people contact other Duo users by their email address. Currently, a user can contact other users by using their phone number.

Google Duo web is already available for the user to use without linking a phone number. Users can have video calls just by using an email address. However, the accounts that don't have a mobile number linked dont show up in the contact list. We can expect some similar abilities may come to the Duo Android app as well.

Google last month also announced that it is adding a Duo Momentsfeature to take a screenshot while having a video call to capture beautiful moments. The company is also planning to increase the number of participants for having a group video call.
